Medical Care
Uniting compassion, research and communication

St. Luke’s has steadfastly demonstrated a deep commitment to patient-oriented medical care and nursing services based on the spirit of Christianity for over a century. Our team of health care professionals strives to seamlessly integrate clinical specialist services, nursing, advanced medical support technology, counseling and administrative functions with evidence-based clinical protocols. This collaborative approach distinguishes St. Luke’s as the unrivaled leader in patient care.

The hospital facilities incorporate a wide number of specialized departments with innovative diagnostic equipment to address a broad spectrum of illness and disease. At St. Luke’s, patients benefit from the latest treatment options and technology in an environment of highly personalized care.

Open communication and trust among patients, family and the health care team is a vital facet of holistic care. Our health care professionals are dedicated to understanding the needs and concerns of each patient as a unique individual.

They provide information, counseling, advocacy resources and support for informed decision-making.

Advanced, Integrated Specialty Care

We believe the key to providing our patients with the best possible care is the close coordination of staff and resources to ensure a complete and thorough integration of our specialized medical services. With this understanding, we merged our Cardiovascular Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Surgery Departments into the Heart Center in 2001 and introduced leading-edge technologies into our Reproductive Surgery Center.

In 2005, we launched the Ambulatory Care Center for Children and the Breast Center. The opening of our Gastroenterology Center in 2006 will mark another milestone in our journey of expanding our specialized service offerings.

Comprehensive Centralized Services

Clinical Laboratory Department

We are proud that St. Luke’s was the first hospital in Japan to develop a centralized approach to Radiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology and Clinical Laboratory, thereby achieving optimum efficiency in the delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Our Radiology Department is equipped and staffed to provide an extensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, from linear accelerators (LINAC) and electric beam therapy to therapy programming devices and thermotherapy.

The Pathology Department helps all clinicians make definitive diagnoses and contributes to improving quality of care by convening CPC and Tissue Conferences, which provide venues for leading health care professionals to exchange information. Our highly skilled pathologists also help St. Luke’s representatives prepare presentations for a variety of academic meetings.

Specialists in our Clinical Laboratory Department conduct tests in hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, immunochemistry, as well as clinical physiology (electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, electromyograms, sonography and respiratory function tests) and blood transfusions.

Emergency Medical Care Center

Emergency Medical Care Center

Over the years, St. Luke’s has compiled an extensive record in the provision of emergency services. This history of accomplishment was recognized in 1999 when the hospital was certified by the government as an Emergency Medical Care Center to offer 24-hour ambulatory care. The Center’s extensive community medical services strengthen local networks and expand the community’s capacity to provide timely, effective care. At the same time, the Center serves as a training site for doctors and an educational facility for complementary health care professionals.

St. Luke’s has been designated as a specialized facility for handling internal organs from brain dead patients under the current transplant law.
